espresso Displays gains physical presence in JB Hi-Fi Stores

Australia’s global success story – espresso Displays – is now available in JB Hi-Fi stores across Australia and New Zealand. Its award-winning portable screens, espresso Display 15 and espresso 17 Pro, will be rolled out to more than 100 JB Hi-Fi trans-Tasman stores plus the retailer’s website.

If you go there right now, they’re on sale.

“JB Hi-Fi is an Australian retail icon trusted by so many households and people know they will get the best range of innovative tech to suit their needs,” said espresso Displays co-founder and CEO Will Scuderi.

“As one of few local tech brands making hardware, we now have the ability to reach more Australians and offer the opportunity to get their hands on our products – which is one of the most powerful ways to communicate how a premium portable display like ours can fit into someone’s life, Scuderi added.”

Getting hands on with technology is the best way to finish a sale. The most impressive part of an espresso Displays demo is experiencing the transformation of a Mac into a touch computer.

Example of espresso Displays setup

The edit suite above is my setup. There’s a 17 Pro on the left and a 15 on the right, both connected to a Mac Mini. The power and data are transferred by a single USB-C cable to each monitor. It makes the whole setup easy to transport for use on the road.

And I absolutely love it.

LG G3 is Best TV Black Friday Deal

When it comes to technology, Black Friday can leave many consumers wondering if they actually spent their money wisely.  Televisions are probably the hardest tech device to buy due to the complex nature of the product and wildly varied perceived value for money.

It’s an expensive purchase that it needs to last for years. Unfortunately, not all the best models have been discounted but plenty have been including my pick for the current sales period.

Here are my top picks during Black Friday/Cyber Monday Sales.

83”             $7,775 save $3220

77”             $5887 save $2512

65”             $3485 save $1810

The LG G3 has edged past Samsung’s S95C QD-OLED as the top buy due to Black Friday discounting. They are very similar in quality but LG’s pricing is now better – but you’ll need to buy today or over the next few days.

On thing is for sure …. you should never pay full sticker price for TVs as they will go through big cuts at some point during their year of release.

The Samsung S90C 65-inch QD-OLED is worth looking at for $2885. It’s discounted by $1410. It’s very close to the performance of the S95C.

When it comes to portable projectors Samsung’s second gen Freestyle is thankfully currently discounted. It looks like the original but now has a faster processor so it’s very snappy. This is a much improved version. It’s great for backyard movies and camping. It’s on sale for $879 – a massive $416 off. You’ll need a compatible USB PD power bank with 50W/20V draw or you won’t be watching anything.

If you’re looking for a very large TV, the Samsung 98″ Q80C QLED is discounted by $1000 – now selling for $5985.

espresso 17 Pro is now 4K: CEO explains changes to Image Matrix Tech in EXCLUSIVE VIDEO

This is it. The ultimate portable display. A must for serious creators on the road.

The new espresso 17 Pro is a 17.3inch 4K portable touch screen that’s just 9mm thin. Even before the display is turned on it looks impressive thanks to its aerospace aluminium build.

“espresso 17 Pro is meticulously crafted to support professionals and creatives who need to perform at their best, wherever their work takes them and whatever platforms they use,” said Will Scuderi, cofounder and CEO at espresso Displays.

In the video above, Scuderi exclusively showed on-camera to Image Matrix Tech, how the 17 Pro takes portable monitors to the next level.

“We’ve listened intently to how people work today and where work trends are evolving.

“Our innovation responds directly to what we see and hear from our customers, partners, and collaborators, which is why our products do not sit within the confines of traditional tech product categories,” Scuderi added.

I’ve been a big fan of espresso Displays but as a professional working in the video world, the previous models did not quite meet my needs in the edit suite. But that’s all changed with the espresso 17 Pro. Now with the specs like 4K, 17.3 inches, 10-bit, 100% DCI-P3 and 450 nits of brightness. espresso 17 Pro works via a single USB-C connection with thousands of devices. Compatibility options are available for devices that do not support USB-C.

Of course it continues to add touch to the Mac. espresso has re-engineered its touch screen software from the ground up. After trying the new screen, it clearly feels slicker and more responsive with better options.

To support the larger espresso 17 Pro there’s a new stand that secures magnetically to the rear of the display. The Stand Pro allows for work at various angles and heights, including portrait and landscape modes. Optimised for drawing and sketching, Stand Pro can be set securely to an 18-degree angle with a purple accented built-in kick-stand.

At the base of the Stand Pro you can add espresso Displays’ first ever battery pack. A 27,000 mAh/99wH power bank that’s also airline friendly. Designed to fit flush beneath Stand Pro, it also adds height to 17 Pro display. When used with espressoFlow, users can dynamically switch charging direction between their device and Charge, and monitor battery consumption and diagnostics via an updated power tracking dashboard.

Jot by espresso makes the most out of the pen. Activated by a pen click or keyboard shortcut, Jot is a utility to capture, cut, save, and drop on-screen content between any app, window, or document. Jot acts like a digital sketch pad that sits over the top of a desktop environment, allowing you to sketch, take notes, and transfer content. Jot will be available to all 17 Pro customers as a free download.

espresso Creator, a paper-esque screen protective adhesive layer for the 17 Pro will also be available, ensuring comfort and a smooth writing and drawing experience.

Available as an additional accessory, Case 17 is a folio-style protector and kick-stand designed to attach to 17 Pro via magnets.

FIRST LOOK: Skylight 15-inch Digital Photo Frame Launches in Australia

The Skylight 15-inch Digital Frame holds up to 8000 images, is super-simple to setup and operate. After loading using WI-FI, it can also work offline. It is the ideal Christmas gift for friends and family. It’s possible to preload your favourite photos without ever unboxing Skylight. When the recipient plugs in, they will immediately enjoy the images. That’s pretty good. Apart from displaying pictures, the frame plays videos, creates montages, summarises monthly memories, and even allows interactivity via messages.

I’m shooting a longer review but here are my initial impressions on Sky News Weekend Edition with Tim Gilbert.

Watch Djuro Sen run through the features of the Skylight 15-inch Digital Photo Frame

The setup experience goes a long way in selling this product. The 1920×1080 IPS screen quality is good but I’m used to seeing high-end 4K OLED displays at my place so it’s something I can’t help but be pretty critical about. Most people will be more than happy with it and after a few hours I am too. But .. I’d really love to see a 15-inch 4K OLED version .. please Skylight.

The best thing about the Skylight Displays is the photo loading process. They really have made it easy for people who are not technically savvy to operate this device. You can upload images remotely via email or the Skylight app. This takes the pain out of gifting this photo frame to grandparents etc.

The only physical effort required is attaching the beefy stand with a Phillips head screwdriver. It can also be wall-mounted and the images auto-rotate to match the position. All the equipment comes in the box (aside from the screwdriver). A classic white border means the frame will look good in any home.

The display is a touch screen so you can easily access all of the settings like brightness, shot duration and sleep mode. Users can zoom, crop and curate albums to create different experiences. Those with a subscription can further enhance the interactive experience by creating comments and using emojis over the images.

Skylight’s frames are Amazon’s best-selling brand of digital photo frames. They’ve sold 1 million units and connect a community of over 5 million people globally.

“Our mission at Skylight is to connect loved ones. Given Australia’s size and the distances between many families, we are proud that our product is able to help bring tens of thousands of Australians closer,” says Michael Segal, Founder & CEO of Skylight.

“The holiday season, synonymous with memories, family and friends, is the perfect backdrop for our 15-inch Frame debut in the country.”

I’ve been using digital photo frames on-and-off for more than twenty years, even made my own, but at some point they ended up on the scrapheap. Thankfully, I don’t think Skylight’s latest model will suffer the same fate.

It gets a big thumbs up from me but if you’re still uncertain, wait for my review video next week which will also show the full feature list in action.

The Skylight Digital Frame is available now from Skylight’s website or Amazon Australia for A$399.00.
