Hisense Australia expands Mini-LED TV range

Mini-LED is what 2024 is all about for Hisense.

Leading the way is the UXAU – which features Mini-LED X technology (an insane amount if LEDs and dimming zones) and two additional screen sizes.

Hisense Flagship UXAU

Big screens is big business for Hisense so a massive 110-inch UXAU will be introduced for those who want quality and size. A 65-inch model is also being sold this year.

U8 Series

Hisense U8 Series at CES 2024

The U8 Series, with Mini-LED Pro technology, will be available in a larger size of 85-inches too, joining options ranging from 55-inches and up. The U8 Series also now features a new, streamlined look for 2024, with the model’s audio output located towards the rear of the unit, utilising up-firing speakers and a built-in subwoofer for an immersive audio experience.

The U8NAU now has 1,000+ dimming zones and up to 2,000 nits of brightness – formerly 500+ and 1,300 respectively in 2023.

U7 Series

The U7 Series is the entry level for the premium ULED range. It will continue to be offered in screen sizes from 55 to 100 inches. Throughout the range, Hisense has tripled the model’s number of dimming zones over the outgoing model, with the 300+ built into the U7NAU.

QLED Quantum Dot, Dolby Vision IQ and 144Hz native as standard for the ULED range. The addition of IMAX Enhanced Certification to this collection – previously only available for the U8 Series and above.

U6 Series

Hisense U6 Series

A step down from the premium panels you’ll find Hisense’s new U6 Series. This will get you into the Mini-LED game at a cheaper price. A good thing! You’ll see many features that are included in the premium range too. Hisense is introducing a new ‘affordable’ 100-inch model, the 100Q7NAU, which features 144hz QLED quantum-dot and full array backlit screen.

“Our commitment to innovation drives us to continually redefine industry standards. The 2024 range demonstrates our dedication to delivering unmatched home entertainment experiences. With advancements in Mini-LED technology and offering the opportunity for our customers to go even bigger, we’re thrilled to bring a new level of immersive entertainment to Australian homes at attainable prices,” Lui said.

This year, Hisense’s Game Mode Pro will feature across the U7 Series (U7NAU) and above. The new Hisense Game Bar pops up in place of the usual on-screen settings when gaming consoles or PCs are in-use, so gamers can see which features are active and track the current frames per second.

Solar Remote

Hisense’s leading-three models are now controlled with an all-new solar remote for 2024. Importantly, the Hisense has positioned the solar cell on the front of the remote. I often to forget to turn over my Samsung remote over to keep it charged, because the solar window is on the back. The remote also incorporates USB-C charging, offering a versatile and convenient alternative power source.

When it comes to soundbars the hero AX5120 5.1.2 Dolby Atmos Soundbar features seven speakers and improved sound direction with dedicated up-firing speakers for spatial audio, with a centre speaker designated for dialogue to ensure crisp and clear dictation.

Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity and the convenience of EzPlay enables the use of one remote for a Hisense TV and Hisense soundbar pairing. Logically, the soundbar fits nicely within the adjustable height of select Hisense 2024 TVs which feature adjustable legs and centre stand.

Hisense has standardised VIDAA U7 across the full TV range, including UHD and ULED products. VIDAA U7 delivers tailored content recommendations across multiple streaming services and TÜV Rheinland Certified privacy protection.

The user interface will deliver a personalised stream of content, mainstream apps and newly launched free internet TV channels free-of-charge through VIDAA TV.

Price and Availability

The 2024 TV range will feature the UXAU, U8NAU, U7NAU and U6NAU, as well as the Q7NAU, Q6NAU and A4NAU. Further information on Hisense’s full 2024 TV and soundbar range, including pricing, will be shared soon.

Futuristic Transport is Already Here: CES 2024

Cars and other types of futuristic vehicles made another big impression at CES this year, from Hyundai especially. The Korean motor giant has several enterprises making everything from personal and mass transportation to AI-driven, heavy construction machinery. On Sky News Weekend Edition with Jaynie Seal, I pulled together some of the mobility highlights from the show.

Hyundai puts electric motors inside each wheel

The standout performer was MOBION, a sideways driving EV made possible by Hyundai Mobis. Using an e-Corner system, MOBION can move sideways, diagonally and perform pivot turns. Say goodbye to reverse parking forever!

The wheels are individually controlled by the e-Corner System which ‘translates’ the driver’s steering into turns that are impossible to make in a traditional car. Using ‘In-Wheel’ technology, Hyundai puts electric motors inside each wheel. This enables the crab-like steering but it also reduces straight line speed performance.

To make sure everyone knows what MOBION is doing, the car has exterior lighting and ‘ground projection’ to indicate the direction of travel.

Hyundai Mobis is a global automotive supplier so any customer could end up using this technology in future cars. The great thing is.. it works right now.

Hyundai’s Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) S-A2

This isn’t ready to go yet, but in a couple of years you could be taking a flight in Hyundai’s Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) S-A2, an electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) prototype vehicle. It’s important to note that the S-A2 is not a drone, or autonomous aircraft. It requires a pilot to fly around its four passengers at 1500 feet.

S-A2 is a V-tail aircraft designed to cruise at 193 kph over distances of 40 to 64 kilometres in cities. It uses a distributed electric propulsion architecture and has eight all-tilting rotors. It’s designed to be quiet, the big difference to a helicopter performing the same performance. S-A2 is supposed to be as quiet as a dishwasher: 65 dB in vertical take-off and landing phases and 45 dB while cruising horizontally.

One of the key components to a successful smart city is transport. At CES 2024 we saw a number of people movers that are designed for quick up and drop off. These are autonomous vehicles that have a much better chance of getting a foothold in cities before private self-driving cars.

AI-powered Concept X excavator

As I said in the video above, the AI excavator put on display by HD Hyundai looked more like something from Transformers. In a sign of things to come – very soon – there’s no cabin for a human operator.

It’s powered by electric drive and it’s designed to work in construction zones that may be too hazardous for people.

There was a lot more transport related technology at CES 2024. The event is so big, it takes weeks or months to tell the full story. So keep coming back to see what else happened in Las Vegas this year.

ECOVACS Improves Window Cleaning Robot

The ECOVACS WINBOT W1 PRO was a smash hit last year with home owners. Clearly, there’s a large amount of big windows in Australia because W1 glass cleaning robot sold in big numbers.

The W1 was a big step in the right direction because it actually worked. Previous models didn’t impress but the 2023 version made a big impression. However, there was one big issue.. the power cable. Many people had to go to great lengths to run extension leads through bushes and past swimming pools to get the W1 powered. It was separate to the safety tether but added complexity to the job.

Now, the ECOVACS WINBOT W2 OMNI comes with its own portable suitcase-style multi-functional station and ONE cord that performs the double task of power and safety line. It is equipped with drop protection mechanisms, a built-in battery for unplugged indoor or outdoor use and automatic wire winding. These are all big time savers.

Reduced airflow speed makes for a quieter performance, enhanced by sound-absorbing cotton. The W2 adapts to variety of window designs including floor-to-ceiling windows, small windows, frameless windows or mirrors, tilted windows and more. W2 OMNI can also adapt to various cleaning situations through four new cleaning modes: Fast, Deep, Spot, and Custom. While Fast mode is perfect for everyday cleaning, performing with high efficiency in a single wipe, the Deep Mode incorporates edge-cleaning which ensures no spot is left unwiped. Spot Mode tackles stubborn areas, and Custom Mode lets the user dictate where WINBOT should clean.

W2 OMNI Intelligent Steady Climbing System

Instead of randomly wiping both sides of the window, leaving streaks and residue behind, W2 OMNI utilises an intelligent navigation system, WIN-SLAM 3.0, to ensure consistent edge-to-edge cleaning. Plus, seamless movement around obstacles. It uses a three-nozzle wide-angle spray technology that dissolves dirt and evenly covers windows without drippage. W2 OMNI’s steady climbing system features 3-point anti-slip, anti-dust driving treads and intelligent gravity compensation which allows the robot to maintain steady rolling across windows.

It has a number of safety system built in to give peace of mind while the device is cleaning at a significant height.

The ECOVACS WINBOT W2 OMNI for launch in the US first, there’s no word yet on Australia/NZ availability or price.

But we’ll keep you posted.

We’ll also cover the other ECOVACS products announced at CES 2024.
