RF 10-20MM F/4L IS STM: Canon’s Widest RF Zoom Lens Announced

Canon continues to pump out quality glass for its mirrorless range of camera bodies, today releasing its widest RF zoom to date.

Canon Australia has announced the RF 10-20mm f/4L IS STM, boosting the L-series range for photo and video professionals. The angle of view opens up to a massive 130° and the results speak for themselves. The RF 10-20mm f/4L IS STM is a rectilinear lens so lines are straight, even at the edges.

This is definitely not a fisheye lens.

Yes it is f/4, but with 5-stops of built-in stabilisation and autofocus I think it’s a winner. In fact, the IS goes up to 6-stops when combined with the in-body stabilisation. I think everyone would love a faster lens but at least it’s f/4 throughout the zoom range. This helps with consistent exposure at every zoom setting. Also, optical coatings minimise ghosting and flare which can be common with ultra-wide shots.

It’s also pretty small and light for a lens of this quality and complexity. Weighing just 570g, the RF 10-20mm f/4L IS STM is ideal for travel.

Canon makes the point that it’s less than half the weight (610g lighter) and 2cm smaller in width and length than the EF 11-24mm f/4L USM – in fact, the new lens paired with an EOS R8 weighs less than the older EF lens alone.
