This is not a normal Ultra: Samsung Galaxy S22 ULTRA

“This is not a normal Ultra,” says Garry McGregor from Samsung Australia. That was Garry’s response to my ‘statement’ that the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is really a Note.

I have the ULTRA and PLUS models to test over coming days but in the video above you’ll see a quick explanation why the S22 ULTRA is more than the beloved Samsung Note and more than the usual S Series flagship.

Now we have the best of the Note with the best of the S series cameras.

Reviews coming soon so look out for them here and more on Sky News Weekend Edition with Tim Gilbert 7:15am Sunday.

Scammers Prefer Friday and Saturday Says Telstra

Published

on

Scammers are getting to know their targets very well. After analysing data from 2022 and 2023, Telstra says Australians are more likely to receive a dodgy text message on a Friday or a Saturday.

Telstra says it blocks on average 11% more scams on Friday and Saturday than any other day of the week. The big telco’s security operations also noted that scammers like to hassle Australians between 1am and 4am.

DJURO SEN APPEARS ON SKY NEWS WEEKEND EDITION TO DISCUSS TELSTA SMS SCAM DATA

By targeting Thursday and Friday scammers are clearly trying to take advantage of Australians when they are out partying or distracted by other weekend duties, like sleep. SMS is a preferred method because it usually involves a quick response and during these hours it’s a strategy that appears to be working.

The good news is we get a bit of a reprieve on Sundays with Telstra reporting it blocks almost 20% fewer scam messages compared to the weekly average.

But the overall numbers show that we are just keeping ahead of the bad guys. It’s important to remain vigilant as Telstra blocks an average of 11 million scam SMS messages every month – an increase of 69% year on year.

You can find more information on scams from Telstra here.

Motorola Razr 50 Ultra: What’s new?

Published

on

Motorola has announced the motorola razr 50 ultra so what’s new? AI of course. The latest razr models are running Google’s Gemini AI which you can operate from the massive external screen while the phone is closed.

DJURO SEN SHOWS OFF THE NEW MOTOROLA RAZR 50 ULTRA ON SKY NEWS WEEKEND EDITION WITH JAYNIE SEAL

The new 4-inch external display is biggest in this category with a crisp resolution of 1272×1080 and a refresh rate of 165Hz. The screen is capable of HDR peak brightness of 2400 nits, has 10-bit colour with a 25% wider colour range thanks to HDR10+ certification and DCI-P3 support. It’s also usable in bright sunlight, with the external display reaching a maximum brightness levels of 1500 nits.

You could spend the whole day using the front screen alone. It’s pretty easy to navigate with one hand with unlock access via the side mounted fingerprint button. The speaker when closed is very loud but a bit lacking in bass.

Of course the best part of a foldable phone is actually opening it up to use the larger display. The flip open can be done with one hand if you have the skill. It reveals a 6.9″ pOLED main display with HDR10+ and HDR peak brightness of 3000 nits. Like the external screen you get a high brightness mode that automatically adjusts the display outdoors, reaching a maximum brightness of of 1500 nits.

The inside display is good for gaming with a 165Hz refresh rate and when reading e-books it saves power by running at just 1Hz.

The other advantage to foldable phones is better selfies. The best cameras and external screen combine to give you a better result. On standard phones the best cameras are on the back and that means using an inferior for selfies, mostly. I often turn my phone around and take a punt, with varied results. The camera embedded in the internal screen (selfie camera) is not that bad, it’s still 32MP and absolutely fine for most meeting applications like Zoom.

Motorola have updated main cameras to 50MP from the razr 40 ultra but have changed the ultrawide camera to a 2x optical zoom.

When it comes to toughness, there’s Gorilla Glass Victus and IPX8-rated underwater protection. That means it will survive a being dunked for 30 minutes at one metre.

There’s a 4000mAh battery on board with 45W charging possible via USB-C or 15W wireless.

Exclusive Preview: Samsung Lights Up Vivid with AI Inspired Display

Published

on

Samsung is back at Vivid Sydney, Australia’s annual light show spectacular, with an AI inspired display that will give Instagrammers plenty of sweet content to share online. Image Matrix Tech had an exclusive preview tour last night and this is what you can expect.

Lots of Light Globes

Located in the prime position of First Fleet Park, The Rocks – the Samsung ‘Chorus of Light’ is made up of 20,000 RGB light globes hanging from 1,600 strings (cables). It’s open from 6pm tonight, every night until June 15, 2024.

AI Inspired

Chorus of Light’ is inspired by Galaxy AI. Samsung is using the event to promote to AI features introduced with the S24 range earlier this year. The display will use Galaxy AI to help with photography or as Samsung calls it, NIGHTOGRAPHY.

Interactive

As you walk among the hanging lights you’ll be directed to a couple of photo ‘platforms’ where a very polite guide will take a photo for you with an S24 Ultra. They can share it with you immediately using Quick Share. This works by generating a QR Code. It’s very fast and works with iPhone too. Given the team knows how the lighting works, it’s probably better they take the shot.

The other part of the interactive journey pays homage to Vivid Sydney 2024’s theme of ‘Humanity’. Visitors are asked to record a personal message of hope for the future in one of the 16 languages available with Galaxy AI. Each attendee’s message will then be live translated and expressed as a unique light display. The visuals are made possible by by renowned international media artist, Susan Kosti.

The recorded messages will later feature in an original track produced by multi-genre Australian musician and beat maker, Ta-ku. The track will be crafted entirely from vocal samples recorded within the Chorus of Light installation and launched on Samsung’s YouTube on 12 June for the world to hear.

Great View

The other section is a massive viewing platform that allows visitors to look down on the whole display. There are Galaxy phones and staff to help you capture the scene if you want the best result. They can fit about 60 people up there while the numbers going through the hanging lights is tightly controlled.

Wait – There’s More!

At the end of the tour, visitors can scan a QR code for a chance to win a travel prize. The prize pack includes a Galaxy S24 Ultra, Galaxy Buds2 Pro, Galaxy Watch6, and a $5K travel voucher.

Opening Times

The display is open to visitors from 6pm each night at First Fleet Park in The Rocks for the duration of Vivid Sydney. Vivid Sydney runs from Friday 24 May to Saturday 15 June 2024. Plan your Vivid Sydney trip at vividsydney.com.
