“We’re up for the challenge” LG responds with stellar G3 OLED

LG has confirmed its 2023 lineup for the Australian market with with 33 new models. The flagship is the much brighter G3 OLED.

Tony Brown, Marketing Manager for Home Entertainment at LG Electronics Australia, told Image Matrix Tech, “The big thing this year for LG is the 70% brighter G3 model. So we’ve achieved 70% brightness because of the micro lens array technology. Effectively we’re printing a substrate of screens with tiny little lenses.”

Available in sizes from 55- to 83-inches, the G3 features the company’s latest Alpha9 Gen 6 AI Processor which does all of the heavy lifting to improve picture quality.  Now, having seen it first hand, side-by-side with the new C3, I’m a believer in in MLA.

AI Picture Pro offers improved upscaling and includes OLED Dynamic Tone Mapping Pro. This splits pictures into 20,000 blocks to detect the darkest and brightest areas and deliver precision HDR optimisation, increasing users’ sense of immersion. The application of Super Anti Reflective technology greatly reduces glare and reflections.

All up the G3 packs some serious punch .. and it needs to because of Samsung’s QD-OLED entry into the market. I suggested to Tony Brown that LG was like a long reigning sporting champion doing what it takes to stay on top.

“I think that’s a really great analogy,” Brown responded. “We are the champion. We’ve been making OLED technology for 10 years and we’ve been making it better and better and better. But we have a competitor in the market now and we’re up for the challenge. As you’ve seen today, we have a G3 model that’s 70% brighter than the standard OLED panel. And the picture quality that you get, the 20,000 dynamic tone mapping zones in the TV are just getting that picture up in front of people’s faces.”

So what’s LG’s advice when consumers see a new OLED option next to the LG lineup.

“Look .. my advice is to look for the company who’s been making this product for ten years, added Brown. “We have a history of innovative technology leadership in the OLED space. We are the kings of OLED at the moment, and look for yourselves. Look at the picture quality. Look at the depth of field that you can see in the OLED screens. Look at the brightness that you get from an LG OLED, and look at the colour and the impact of seeing these movies. See it for yourself. Seeing is believing with OLED TV but we are the leaders from LG in this OLED technology.”

The LG G3 OLED evo TV features One Wall Design,3 leaving minimal visible gap when wall mounted, to blend into living spaces. Customers have the freedom to display the G3 on a Pedestal Stand, which is also included with purchase.

And LG AI Sound Pro provides virtual 9.1.2 surround sound from the TVs built-in speakers.

Personalised Entertainment Experiences

In 2023, LG has also introduced the all-new ‘Home webOS’ that offers convenience and customisation options. New Quick Cards providing access to content and services within different categories are grouped into Home Office, Gaming, Music and Sports. The Home Office Card transforms the LG TV into a workstation by accessing cloud-based virtualisation solutions, such as Windows 365 and Google Drive and via the Gaming Card, users have a gateway straight from the home screen to access services such as GeForce NOW, Twitch and YouTube.12 The Music card provides quick access to a variety of major music streaming services such as TIDAL and Spotify, and the Sports card serves real-time updates and alerts to help users stay up to date with sports leagues and teams, including Australian sporting codes – AFL and NRL.

Other features that have joined the 2023 TV range include AI Concierge, which provides a selection of keywords for browsing trending content. It also suggests useful settings, options and modes, including the Family Care setting, Eye Comfort mode and Multi-View mode (inputs displayed as Picture in Picture or Side by Side), clock setting, Bluetooth speaker connection, and mute sound, for customising the viewing and user experience.

Complementing the home entertainment experience is seamless TV and sound bar integration. When paired, compatible LG TVs and compatible sound bars leverage WOW Orchestra,4 which utilises every audio channel across both products to create stronger, more immersive sound. The convenient WOW Interface5 makes it possible to control sound bar settings via the TV the Home Dashboard.

What’s more, Dolby Vision IQ and Dolby Atmos™ remain in LG TVs in 2023.6 The features intelligently adjust picture and audio to deliver bright images, intense colour and contrast and rich audio, based on the content and lighting conditions of the room.

For avid gamers, LG has expanded the cloud gaming experience by adding 4K support for NVIDIA GeForce NOW across the 2023 TV range. Users can now enjoy gaming on GeForce NOW at 4K 60 frames per second resulting in more realistic and dynamic visuals as real-time gameplay is delivered straight from the cloud.

Game Optimiser also returns to 2023 LG OLED TVs, allowing users to quickly select and switch between game-genre display presets, and other gaming specific features. G-SYNC® Compatible, FreeSync™ Premium and HDMI-VRR with HGiG are easily accessible from the Game Optimiser.
